How would you describe your art in three words?

Non-conforming, Versatile, Unprecedented.

Using witty lyrics and smooth beats, Star Johnson, known online as Stari, crafts songs that radiate with confidence. The 19 year old rapper from New York has loved music ever since he was a child, and has amassed incredible skill as a lyricist. His words are a central feature of his songs, setting them over a smooth and varied backing track. He gathers inspiration from freestyles, the bars he plays with when bored, or listening to other artist’s music. Star centers his music in his creativity and vision for his life, aiming to create a long-lasting legacy with his art.

Where/how do you gather inspiration?

I love to draw inspiration from my predecessors, but only those of legendary status, keeping in mind to always re-invent, be inspired but do not duplicate.

What do you hope audiences retain from your work?

I want my audience to feel fearless, to be unapologetically themselves, this is your story, don’t let anyone else tell it.
