Seeking the Creative: Ruby Harmer, Makeup Artist
How would you describe your art in three words?
Expressive, fun, artistic.
16-year-old artist Ruby Anne Harmer uses her face as her canvas, fashioning vibrant make-up looks that play with reality and illusion. From bright colors and sharp lines to soft blending and seamlessly integrated hues, her work conveys years of practice and dedication. Indeed, Ruby Anne’s passion for the craft began in her early teenage years, evolving from a love of painting when she received several make-up palettes as a Christmas gift. Since then, she has worked on improving her skills continuously, posting on her Instagram each week and styling her looks with matching outfits and lighting. Ruby Anne’s passion has also led her to pursue a makeup artistry course at college where she expands her knowledge by learning about the make-up industry. In the future, she hopes to apply her skills in the film and TV industry and to make her passion a profession.
Where/how do you gather inspiration?
Mainly from other makeup artists, but honestly it can come from anywhere. It’s a very creative community so it’s easy to find looks I want to try/take inspiration from. I also love basing looks off of paintings and drawings as it’s fun to translate the artwork into makeup!
What do you hope audiences retain from your work?
I love the outlet that makeup provides to express myself, so I encourage others to do the same with something creative they enjoy or even try something new.
