Seeking the Creative: Josephine Earley, Abstract Expressionist Artist and Photographer
How would you describe your art in three words?
My art is expressive, intiuitive and vibrant.
I’m Josephine Earley. A little bit about my background and the reason my website name is Pina Earley. I was born in Italy and came to New York when I was five. I learned to speak English quickly, however, it was difficult living in a household where only Italian was spoken. Art has always helped me communicate my thoughts and emotions when words couldn’t. After a family trip to Italy in high school, I fell in love with Italian fashion and pursued fashion design in college. I studied abroad in Italy to pursue my passion and learned illustration and design. I also had the opportunity to work with an amazing fashion photographer that inspired me to learn photography. After college, working in New York City, I was exposed to many great designers and artists and I eventually landed in the home industry. I realized my dream of owning my own design and fabric shop with my Mom, a master seamstress. The yearning to begin painting was always on my mind but I never had the time or opportunity to begin. It was something I would do “someday”.
Where/how do you gather inspiration?
My inspiration comes from all things nature. The elements can be all encompassing and intoxicating for me. A sunset each and everyday is inspiring.
What do you hope audiences retain from your work?
My main goal is to inspire others. I hope they meet me and decide to paint.
