AMM NextGen Interviews the Comic Character Bibi of The Adventures of Bibi & Friends
Introduce yourself
My name is Bibi, and I am a comic character from The Adventures of Bibi & Friends comic book based in Miami Beach!
When were you created?
I was created in 1998! I am a composition of 3 different people that my creator Brigitte Andrade envisioned to honor in her life.
What work do you?
I do marketing, branding and public relations through comic book advertising and I am the official South Beach Ambassador of fun and excitement! It’s a fun job!
Does Bibi have a last name?
I am a one-woman nickname! Does anyone know Barbie’s last name? She actually does have a full name and so does Ken, but like Barbie, Cher, Madonna, I like just Bibi!
What is it like to be an alter ego?
It is so much fun, you can’t imagine! You can create fun and playful personas that can do and say things that real people might not be able or want to. I also get to go to all the fun parties and events in Miami Beach.
Do you enjoy living in Miami Beach?
Is that a real question…lol? I don’t just enjoy it; I love living with the sunshine and beach except during hurricane season. It is a lot of work but thank God I am not a real person, so I don’t have to do the heavy work.
Tell us about your friends?
My friends are all the real people from Miami Beach and around the world. I feel special to be a bridge where comic book meets reality. I also have 3 other fictional character friends that I have worked with in the comic books. There are the twins Rico & Laurent Romeo, the tennis and soccer player and Gio my actor and model friend!
We see you have traveled the globe as a brand & marketing ambassador. Where have you been lately?
Because of Covid, my travels have been restricted but in the past 2 years, I have appeared in several Expo Metro art shows, including the Paris Metro in 2020, on the streets of Monaco June-July 2021, and I was in NYC for a Collective Art Exhibition in Dec 2021. It was beyond exciting to see my face on a giant billboard in the Village in NYC!
We learned that your character has been featured in several museum & exhibits. Tell us about it!
Being a comic character for the past 23 years has allowed me to gain some notoriety and fame in Miami Beach! I have appeared in 22 exhibits and was honored to be featured along with my friends at the HistoryMiami Museum (A Smithsonian affiliate) from August – December 2021. Other exhibitions over the years include my appearances at GMCVB Art Basel Booth MB Convention Center, GIF POP Contemporary New Art of Animated Gif’s at The Vintro Hotel, “Bibi’s Journey in Time 1950’s Miami Beach” a 9-month curated exhibit at The Sagamore Hotel, “Journey into 3D Art” show curated by Arts United at The LBGT Visitors Center Miami Beach, the Miami Marine Stadium “If Seats Could Talk” exhibition at the Art Deco Museum on Ocean Drive and the Bibi Chair & video exhibit with Visual Summit at the Miami Dome at Magic City Studios and to name a few.
How are you helping to rebrand and reimagine Miami Beach after Covid?
Well, the most important thing is to do everything as safely as possible so that we stay open. I will be appearing in a new book and assisting in messaging and storytelling in some of the new City of Miami Beach & Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau Ad campaigns!
What would you like to do in the future?
I would love to be an animated character and have a travel series. That would be so cool but, in the meanwhile, I will continue to travel the world bringing fun and excitement to all that follow me. Remember “Where Bibi Goes, The World Follows”!
Are you on exhibit now and where can people find you?
After the HistoryMiami Museum, I was in an exhibit for an anniversary event off Lincoln Road in Miami Beach for a few weeks. I always wanted to be on Lincoln Road especially for the tourist because it is where everything started for me, and it would be fun to be the new hostess of Lincoln Road! My website is theadventuresofbibiandfriends.com and you can follow BibiAdventures on Instagram.
