Flowers, butterflies, and a life-size snake are only a few of the creatures 13-year-old Ali Abdul Karim can represent through origami. Living in York, South Carolina, Ali has been pursuing his craft since the age of 6 and spends his daily free time folding paper into stunning shapes with a skill that defies belief. From brightly colored paper airplanes to tiny paper cranes, his vibrant origami folds demonstrate an attention to detail and remarkable precision. Ali names origami his “favorite hobby” and hopes to broaden his inspiration by traveling and encountering arts from all around the globe – with his determination, there is no doubt he will one day achieve it.

Where/how do you gather inspiration?

I love trying to make new things, and challenging myself with different designs. Some of my favorite creations are animals, and dinosaurs that I like.

What do you hope audiences retain from your work?

I hope they have a good time, and enjoy making different works of art using only paper! I’d like them to see how far their own creativity can take them, and maybe even surprise themselves.
