How would you describe your art in three words?

Intimate, vivid and bold.

Great portraiture is all about capturing the essence of your subjects in a single snapshot, and photographer Rosie Forsyth understands this perfectly. Since she began taking portraits of her friends and family in 2017, Rosie has prioritized a comfortable photoshoot environment in which her subjects can truly enjoy having their pictures taken. When she started studying at The University of Exeter, she expanded her focus to include product and fashion photography. Now, living in London, her work has evolved significantly—showcasing her skillful eye, hard working habits, and her passion for her art. Rose hopes to always continue learning and to establish herself as a professional photographer, working with other creatives to grow her craft.

Where/how do you gather inspiration?

From a young age, I would admire the way professionals, such as Damon Baker, would stress the importance of creating a portrait as opposed to simply taking a photo. Baker would use photography to express himself and I found so much enjoyment in exploring the visual communication that photography could achieve. I was inspired by the way photographers looked beyond capturing a photo and used their artistic vision to form a real interaction.

What do you hope audiences retain from your work?

I have always looked to achieve a level of communication between the subject and the viewer, I hoped that I could capture the energy and intimate personality behind my shots that would deliver to my audience. I rarely ask my subjects to hold still but I speak to them as I photograph – this breaks down the wall between them and the camera and opens a channel through which they can connect and share energy with my audience.
